"I can't think of anything bad enough to call you."

We started with a classic, and probably the longest movie one the list, Gone With the Wind. To paraphrase Travis - you have three free days to spend watching that movie? It's the only movie I've ever seen with an intermission and is my mom's personal favorite, for good reason. The dresses/clothes in general are fabulous - the green and white dress Scarlet wears to the bar-b-que is our favorite, but the dress made out of the curtains comes in second in my book. Honorable mention: the dress Rhett makes Scarlet wear to Ashley's birthday party. I also love what men wore back then - I'm pretty sure most guys wouldn't agree to wear those pants these days.

The film takes place during the Civil War so there is some history included with a look at the Old South. It's probably because I'm somewhat of a hopeless romantic, but I just love Southern gentlemen. A lot happens in the movie and a lot of people die, which is probably why the movie is 4 hours long. I started feeling bad for Scarlet toward the end when everything in her life falls apart, but she's a real brat throughout the movie. Her interactions with Rhett always make me laugh because they seem to be cut from the same cloth.

I'm also wondering if there is any coincidence that my name is Katye and Scarlet's first name is Katie...it is my mom's favorite movie...

This movie had three quotes in the top 100, but there were several other lines that we really enjoyed like "don't you know that's bad luck, quick say a prayer", "fiddle-dee-dee", "It just ain't fittin", and "...although, you need kissing badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how."

Quotes on the top 100 list:
  • Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn
  • After all, tomorrow is another day
  • As God is my witness, I'll never go hungry again

The Top 100 Movie Quotes

I decided to watch the movies that have the top 100 Movie Quotes according to AFI's 100 Years 100 Movie Quotes list. However, there are many movies that have more than one quote so I got to add a few to the list. Why top 100 movie quotes and not just the top 100 movies? Well, I didn't think I'd like all the movies in that list. And who am I kidding? I love quoting movies. To make sure I don't get sick of watching movies - which would be terrible - and to give myself time to go see new films I am going to complete this task by 2012.

Of course I'm not watching all these movies by myself, so it will be a time for friends to get together and watch classic movies. I think it'll be fun to see the quotes in context, especially since I know a lot of the quotes but have never seen the movies they come from. I'm taking it as a time to enrich the lives of my friends with some classics. haha. And this way maybe I'll quote other movies than She's the Man, Nacho Libre, Made of Honor, etc.

I don't know if anyone really wants to read this, but hey, one day they might make a movie about it - it happened for Julie and Julia...

After this I'll really be able to say "I got a life time of knowledge."
